Assistant Professor

I am  presently working as an assistant professor at the Institute of Kashmir Studies, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, where I teach courses on Theoretical Foundations of Anthropology, Development and Anthropology, Field Work Methods and Social Movements. I started my teaching career with University of Delhi in the year 2008. I also taught at the Centre for Community Organization and Development Practice, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, India. My research focuses on understanding the experiences of marginalized communities in Kashmir. I am also deeply interested in understanding politics of identity and exclusion among the Dalits and othe communities engaged in 'Dirty' work. I have guided student’s dissertations on range of themes including Inter-faith Community relations, Media Politics and Framing, Caste and Caste based Identities, Ethnic Identity and Identity based discourse. Women and Health, Tribes and Marginality.

I have published papers in International Journals including Taylor and Francis (Routeledge), Oxford University Press and National Journals of repute Including Indian Journal of Social Work and Economic and Political Weekly.I  have has also been closely associated with several inter-community dialogues on dispute resolution and reconciliation organized by Delhi based think tank Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) and have undertaken research consultancies with Plan India, UNICEF and PRAXIS, Delhi.
