From the Director’s desk:

My dear students,

Welcome to the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, University of Kashmir to the exciting stage in its evolution as a premier interdisciplinary institute. UMIKS has an impact not only at local and national but at international level as well. The academics and students at our Institute collaborate with other partners in the larger region of South Asia to address challenges of national and regional importance in areas as diverse as culture, conflict, gender and regional integration. Our aim is to promote pluralism in student body and teaching faculty, whom we admit and invite from all SAARC countries. We also encourage pluralism in disciplines and approaches employed both in teaching and research.

The future of the people in South Asian region is best predicted by the education of its youth. What South Asia looks like in 2050 will be determined by its ability to transform the educational profile of its people. If there is one factor that could make the difference between catastrophic failure and breathtaking success, it is education. The energy of a well-educated youth could make South Asia the cultural and economic dynamo of the world. We, at the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, are determined to move in that direction.

Wish you all the best.
